- Hi,
-
- We are performing a demonstration of robotic technologies for NASA in
- summer 97. It involves a robot operating (hands-off operation) in a
- dessert for 2 months. This is to demonstrate some key technologies
- necessary for planetary (Moon, Mars) exploration missions. The
- demonstration will last for 2 months and will involve participation
- from students and scientists all over the world where they will be
- able to operate the robot and do experiments over the internet. The
- robot also carries a panospheric camera and the imagery will be used
- for telepresence.
-
- I am looking for information on wirless modems that will be able to
- operate over the range of 3-4 miles. The idea is to transmit to a
- nearby satellite van and then transmit to a remote control station
- through satellite links. Because of the high quality imagery our data
- rates are pretty high. We would like to achieve about 4 Mbps through
- combination of modems. One of the biggest problem is that since the
- robot is moving all the times in natural terrain achieving LOS is
- difficult. So for atleast data part we want non-LOS link. We were
- looking into using 3 Arlan 640s or an Arlan 640 + a cylink but all of
- these are LOS. Also with omni antennas they give range of less than a
- mile.
-
- I would appreicate any information on modems or any suggestions for
- this problem. I am not a regular reader of bboards so please send
- an email to me.
-
- Thanks a lot
-
